Let the creativity flow

Alrighty. My lovely Lorri has been bugging me to start a blog, so here goes.

I like to think of myself as a pretty creative person, but I don't always exercise this gift. SO...yesterday I decided to break out the ice cream maker and start making something interesting.

Enter: strawberry rhubarb floats with buttermilk sorbet.

I first tried buttermilk gelato at 715 restaurant in Lawrence, KS a few months back. 715 is doing some amazing things and was recently noticed by the Test Kitchen, (a not so secret "secret" underground KC supper club featuring a myriad of talented and award dripping chefs). Their pastry chef hails from Spago in LA and her assortment of gelatos and tantalizing, seasonal features never disappoint.

Let me just say that rhubarb is one of my favorite summertime treats. My grandma's strawberry rhubarb pie is legendary and something I always look forward to. I had an old recipe I cut out from Martha Stewart ages ago and decided to pay homage to both 715 and my grandma. I took Martha's rhubarb compote recipe, cut out half the rhubarb and replaced with strawberries, and went to town. The result was summery and delicious. I did, however, realize that I was missing the paddle to my ice cream maker just as poured the buttermilk sorbet mix in. That made for a long 20 minutes of Kerry standing with a spatula in the middle of the ice cream maker as it whirred away. Nevertheless, an excellent result.

Now, off to Marbec's I go to find my missing paddle.

  1. You are the cutest. I love your blog! I suck at blogging. I am trying to figure out how to make mine cute and put music on it and stuff. I am mostly getting a headache.
